An Evaluation of Real-Time Transaction Management Issues in Mobile Database Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
A critical issue in mobile data management is to respond to real-time data access requirements of the supported application. However, it is difficult to handle real-time constraints in a mobile computing environment due to the physical constraints imposed by the mobile computer hardware and the wireless network technology. In this paper, we present a mobile database system model that takes into account the timing requirements of applications supported by mobile computing systems. We provide a transaction execution model with two alternative execution strategies for mobile transactions and evaluate the performance of the system considering various mobile system characteristics, such as the number of mobile hosts in the system, the handoff process, disconnection, coordinator site relocation and wireless link failure. Performance results are provided in terms of the fraction of real-time requirements that are satisfied.

Real-Time Transaction Management in Mobile Computing Systems
In order to respond to real-time data access requirements of the underlying applications, mobile computing systems need to be supported by real-time DBMSs. In this paper, we discuss critical issues related to real-time transaction management in mobile computing systems. We identify some open research problems and suggest directions for future work on possible solution methods. We also present a...
متن کاملA hybrid approach for database intrusion detection at transaction and inter-transaction levels
Nowadays, information plays an important role in organizations. Sensitive information is often stored in databases. Traditional mechanisms such as encryption, access control, and authentication cannot provide a high level of confidence. Therefore, the existence of Intrusion Detection Systems in databases is necessary. In this paper, we propose an intrusion detection system for detecting attacks...
متن کاملAn Optimistic Concurrency Control Protocol for Real-Time Database Systems
Transactions in real-time database systems are associated with certain timing constraints derived either from temporal consistency requirements of data or from requirements imposed on system reaction time. Fundamental requirements of real-time database systems are timeliness, i.e., the ability to produce expected transaction results early or at the right time, and predictability, i.e., the abil...
متن کاملEnergy-Efficient Transaction Management for Real-Time Mobile Databases in Ad-Hoc Network Environments
In an ad-hoc mobile network architecture, all the mobile hosts (MHs) are connected with each other through a wireless network that has a frequently changing topology. This type of architecture is used in many applications such as battlefields and disaster recovery where it is difficult or not feasible to depend on a static wired communication infrastructure. These applications are usually time-...
متن کاملA pre-serialization transaction management technique for mobile multidatabases
Rapid advances in hardware and wireless communication technology have made the concept of mobile computing a reality. Thus, evolving database technology needs to address the requirements of the future mobile user. The frequent disconnection and migration of the mobile user violate underlying presumptions about connectivity that exist in wired database systems and introduce new issues that affec...
